TEST CODES
For the GRE, UNC Charlotte's test code is 5105. For the
GMAT the test code is 5Z3-08-27. Please note that we do not
use Departmental Codes, only the general code for UNC Charlotte.
ADMISSIONS DEADLINES
Students may be admitted to the program during any semester.
Deadlines to submit application materials to the graduate school for
each semester are:
For fall semester admissions: May 1st.
For spring semester admissions: October 1st.
For summer admissions: April 1st.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Admission to the Master of Science in Mathematical
Finance program is open to qualified graduates of recognized colleges
and universities. In addition to a written application the major
requirements for admission are:
- A baccalaureate degree in a related field with a GPA of at least
2.75 out of 4.0, with an average of 3.0 in the junior and senior
years;
- Two official transcripts of all previous academic work;
- Acceptable scores on each portion of the GRE, or a GMAT score
of at least 600, with a minimum score of at least the 85th percentile
on the math portion of the GMAT;
- At least three evaluations from persons familiar with the applicant’s
professional and/or professional qualifications;
- Specific course work equivalent to the following: introductory
course in the Theory of Finance; a standard three semester sequence
in Calculus; Linear algebra; working knowledge of a suitable
programming language; at least one upper-level course in Probability
and Statistics.
Students lacking this coursework may be admitted
subject to the condition that they satisfactorily complete such
coursework during the first two semesters that they are enrolled
in the program and prior to their taking any program courses
where prerequisites are missing; (See prerequsities)
- For applicants from non-English speaking countries, a language
requirement score of 550 on the TOEFL or 220 on the new computer-based
TOEFL or 85% on the MELAB. Non-native speakers of English, may,
at the discretion of either the Graduate School or the Program
Committee for the M.S. in Mathematical Finance, be required to
enroll in English as a Second Language (ESL) courses at the English
Language Training Institute.

international, may apply to the MS in Mathematical Finance degree

RESIDENCY STATUS
The rules regarding in-state residency status are set by North
Carolina statute. The Office of the Registrar is responsible for
administering those rules on behalf of the University. The Office of
the Registrar has placed on-line information about how they
determine residency status, which you can read by clicking the link
below.
Please note that students holding student visas will not be
classified as North Carolina residents.
