Fall Reception for Math-Finance Program

The Fall
Reception for the Master of Science in Mathematical Finance
program at UNC Charlotte will be held on Thursday, August
16th at 6:30 in Salons B and C of the Barnhardt Student Activity
Center (Halton Arena.) Mr. Doug Gardner, Head of Model
Validation and Approval in Market Risk Management, will
speak.
Please come join
us to welcome our new students. This will also be an
excellent opportunity for faculty, students, alumni, and
friends of the program to gather, and to celebrate the
beginning of the academic year. |
Important Graduation Dates
|
Students that
are preparing to graduate must complete two forms: the
"Admission to Candidacy" and the "Application for Degree"
forms. These forms must be completed and turned in far in
advance of the graduation date. For the 2006-2007 academic
year, these dates are:
For Fall,
2007 Graduation: August 29, 2007
For Spring, 2008 Graduation: January 17, 2008

Sun
Microsystems Donates Trading Room to UNC Charlotte
|
UNC
Charlotte mathematical students will have the
opportunity to study in a state-of-the-art trading room
beginning in the Summer, 2006 semester, thanks to a
generous donation by Sun Microsystems. The trading room,
which contains 25 SunRay terminals, which are powered by
2 dedicated SunFire servers, will allow students to get
hands-on experience using the same software and systems
that professional traders use.

In addition
to the Sun terminals, the Trading Room is also the
center for data resources in the Math-Finance program.
Through the trading room students have access to a
variety of data systems including:
Students in
the Math-Finance program will have the opportunity to to
take many courses in the trading room. Courses currently
scheduled for the room include:

Mathematical Finance Now Part of Academic Common Market
The Academic Common Market is a Southern
Regional Education Board (SREB) project. It is a cooperative
agreement between North Carolina and 15 other southern states that
enables residents to pursue unique master's and doctoral degree
programs offered at public institutions in other states while paying
in-state tuition.
The Mathematical Finance program has
now been added to North Carolina's inventory of Academic Common
Market eligible programs. This means that some out of state students
may be able to attend the Mathematical Finance program and pay
in-state tuition.
