Admission to the MS in Mathematical Finance program
at UNC Charlotte is quite competitive. On this page we provide
information about our student body: their typical academic
backgrounds, their typical test scores, the percentage that are
attending full time versus part time, and the percentage of domestic
versus international students.
Program Information
Size of program
The MS in Mathematical has 47 students
enrolled in it as of the start of the fall, 2005 semester. Another 5 to 10 students
are taking prerequisite
classes under a "post-baccalaureate" status in order to meet
prerequisites before entering the program.
Student Qualifications
For the Fall, 2005 semester we received 52 applications and offered admission to
about 34 students for an acceptance
rate of 65%. The typical accepted student had the following profile:
Undergraduate GPA: 3.34
GRE Quantitative Score: 740
GRE Verbal Score: 528
Most of our applications take the GRE. Of those students that we
offered an acceptance that took the GMAT exam, their average score
was 625.
Full Time vs. Part Time
Because of our proximity to the second largest
banking center in the US, many of our students already have
full-time positions with one of the banks. Approximately 60% of our
students work full-time and attend the MS program part time, while
40% are full-time students (where full-time is defined as carrying 9
or more hours.)
International vs. Domestic Students
Approximately 80% of our current students are domestic
students.
